Taunggyi is the capital of Shan State, Myanmar. As of Taunggyi is at an elevation of 4,712ft (1,436m) above sea level, it is hill station and gate way to Kakku Historical Zone.

Interesting Places in Taunggyi

Aye Tharyar Golf Club
The Golf Club is situated near Taunggyi, the capital of Shan State having 18-hole course of 7380 yards, opened in 1995. It is only one hour drive from the famous Inlay Lake.

Aye Tharyar Vineyard

Aye Tharyar Vineyard is located at the foot of the Taunggyi hilltop. White and red wines are now produced by a German expert.

Htam Pagoda
20km far from Taunggyi, located at Hti Han village, and on the way to Kakku Pagoda. There are about 200 pagodas which dated to 17th Century AD and inside are the Buddha images of several sizes.

Hten San Cave

Hten San Cave is located 26 miles (42km) from Taunggyi, the capital city of Shan State; and 10 miles (16km) from Hopone city. It is a natural limestone  cave at 1800 meter above sea level.

Kakku Pagodas

Kakku Pagodas are Asia’s largest and most spectacular wonders. The Pagoda complex has over 2,400 stupas with origins dating back many centuries. Kakku is about 33 miles (53km) from Taunggyi, Shan State.

Montawa Cave

It is situated 2 miles west of Taunggyi and accessible by car. Being on the wall of the mountain, it is a long deep cave with narrow entrance. There are about 1000 Buddha images inside the cave. There are no evidences to prove how long and how deep it is.

Mukayong Village
The village is situated on the way between Taunggyi and Ho Pone. The villagers can grow vegetables whole year round because of the existence of many natural springs there.

Mya Sein Taung Pagoda

The pagoda was built on the hill to the north-east of Taunggyi in 1962. The stupa has a height of 27ft and the Buddha statue inside is 9ft 9in high. It is the bronze statue and the weight is 1800 vises. The mountain being situated 5000 ft above sea level, beautiful northern view of Taunggyi can be seen from the top of it.

Pa-O Village

Most of the Pa-O tribes live around southern Shan State and there are many Pa-O villages in Shan State. They live on agriculture and especially they grow cigar leaves, garlic, wheat and peas.

Shan State Cultural Museum

It displays colourful costumes, weapons, musical instruments and old photos of various tribes of Shan State. To observe the culture of Shan, this museum is the starter to delve deeper.

Shwe Phone Pwint Pagoda

Shwe Phone Pwint Pagoda is situated on the top of the mountain east of the city. From there one can see the panoramic view of Taunggyi. It is about 10 minutes drive or 40 minutes walk from the city.

Sulamuni Pagoda

The huge white pagoda has a gilded corncob stupa that pays tribute to the Ananda temple in Bagan. It was built in 1994, commemorated a centenary of an establish of Taunggyi.

Taunggyi Myoma Market

The busiest part of Taunggyi is the Myoma Market, a place where people from the environs used to flock only once every five days to buy and sell their regional products. Now it has become a daily market and is constantly crowded with people. It is also the gathering point of different national races residing in Taunggyi.
