The La, who are also called "Ka-La", are a subgroup of the Wa. There are only 6 known villages of the La people, which are in the high mountain ranges north of Kyaing Tong.Women wear black turbans, and men are known to be good hunters. Mountain tea grown by the Las is quite delicious. Along the road called "China Road" by the people of Kyaing Tong, there is a La village with about 35 homes. The villagers may be materially poor, but seemed to be spiritually wealthy - rich with happiness.
